While World Goth Day is being celebrated globally with awards, events, music and general online revelry, the organizers are also using the day to educate the general public about acceptance and compassion for cultures outside the mainstream. The event has helped to raise awareness of the issue of tolerance, and has helped give rise to groups like the Sophie Lancaster Foundation, a charity that "challenge(s) the prejudice and intolerance towards people from alternative subcultures."
World Goth Day is a National Awareness Day on 5/22 started in the UK by BBC 6 in conjunction with DJ's Cruel Britannia and Martin OldGoth, who got the event up and running. WGD helps raise awareness and tolerance towards alternative subcultures. Thank you to DJ's Cruel Britannia and to Martin OldGoth for including The Hot Place in the Official WGD celebration. We have enjoyed our stay immensely!
