Room 8, Gram's room, where he died from too much tequila and morpine:
Room 8 - The destination for many music aficionados from the world over. While registered in this room on the 18th of September in 1973, Gram Parsons* (www.gramparsons.com), the Grievous Angel himself, went from rock star to rock legend after one last day of too much tequila and morphine. That September of 1973, Gram had just finished his Fallen Angels tour featuring his duet partner, Emmylou Harris. Gram had a special love for the Joshua Tree Inn and the beauty and stillness of the Joshua Tree National Monument. | ![]() |
Although Joshua Tree is a mere 2+ hour drive from Los Angeles, it is a world away from the everyday pressure and rush of the big city life. This stillness is what attracted Gram and his friends. They all sought the same sanctuary the Joshua Tree Inn offered then as it still does today.
Room 8 still offers a quintessential "Cosmic American Experience" to fans of the father of country alternative rock. On the peach colored wall hangs the same mirror and picture that hung in the room back in 1973.
